Non-urgent advice: Accessibility to the Practice
Non-urgent advice: Extended Access & Emergencies
Accident and Emergency Departments and 999 Services are exactly that – for serious emergency cases. An emergency is a critical or life threatening situation, which may include loss of consciousness, severe chest pain, head injury or loss of blood. People who use these services for minor problems may prevent others with life threatening conditions from getting the immediate care they need.
At Wakefield NHS Walk-in Centre you can turn up to see a nurse if you think you need treatment for a minor illness or ailment; the Walk-in Centre is open 8am and 8pm and is at the King Street Centre.
NHS 111
If the situation is less critical and you are unsure what to do, call NHS 111 which is available 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls from mobiles and landlines are free and the service is staffed by nurses and health information advisors; you can also access 111 services online at 111.nhs.uk
PALS
The Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) can provide confidential, on-the-spot advice and support, helping you to sort out any concerns you may have about the care we or other providers give, guiding you through the different services available from the NHS.
You can call on free phone 0845 602 4832.
Emergencies
Shortness of breath and/or chest pains constitute an emergency; in a life threatening emergency always call 999.
